Johanne Daly du Québec qui joue tant au niveau provincial que national, est une joueuse passablement occupée. C'est sans aucune expérience dans le domaine du curling, que Johanne a amorcé sa carrière de joueuse en 2008 et de plus, elle a participé à trois championnats provincial et national. Elle complète l'équipe du Québec avec Sébastien Boisvert, Carl Marquis et le capitaine Benoit Lessard, ceux-ci ayant terminé avec une fiche de 3 victoires 6 défaites lors des derniers championnats canadiens en mars dernier à Edmonton.
En plus de s'entraîner et de compétitionner tant au niveau provincial que national, Johanne a participé au Cathy Kerr Memorial Bonspiel au RA Club à Ottawa ces trois dernières années, ajoutant à la liste deux bonspiel à Utica dans l'État de New-York, et deux à Cape Code dans l'État du Massachusetts.
C'est à se demander si elle demeure des fois chez elle; en fait oui, elle voyage souvent, mais elle joue également comme première voir même deuxième, ayant été incluse dans les ligues régulières de Boucherville, étant son club maison.
Et comme d'autres joueurs/euses, elle trouve le temps d'aider dans sa communauté. «J'aide Curling Québec lors de différentes cliniques afin de faire découvrir ce qu'est le curling en fauteuil roulant, les gens provenant de centres de réadaptation ou d'écoles spécialisées. Il m'arrive de parler à des étudiants qui sont en apprentissage des techniques de curling, pour leur expliquer les notions du curling en fauteuil roulant.»
Mis à part le curling, le plus bel accomplissement de Johanne est d'avoir été sélectionnée comme un de trois candidats qui ont porté le flambeau olympique lors du relais du flambeau en Chine, à Shanghai en 2008.
Québec’s Johanne Daly, who plays at both the provincial and national championship level, is one busy curler.

Although she only began curling in the autumn of 2008, Johanne has already competed in three provincial wheelchair curling championships and made it to the national event three times, representing Québec. Her current team, which includes Sébastien Boisvert, Carl Marquis, and skip Benoit Lessard, finished with a 3-6 record at the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship in Edmonton last March.
As well as training and competing at the provincial and national level, Johanne has played in the Cathy Kerr Memorial Bonspiel at the RA Club in Ottawa for three years, and she’s even ventured south of the border, to Utica, New York, for the Grand National Curling Club Bonspiel and, twice, to the Cape Cod Summerspiel in Massachusetts.
Whew! Does this curler every stay home? Well, yes. In fact, she may be travelling far afield to compete at a high level in wheelchair curling, but she also plays as lead or second along with her able-bodied club mates in regular leagues at her home club in Boucherville.
And like most curlers, she finds time to give back to her community.
“As a volunteer, I’m helping Curling Québec with different clinics being held for disabled people who want to give wheelchair curling a try,” she explains. “The participants are from different rehabilitation centers, or specialized schools.”
She also helps to educate kids about the challenges – and fun – of wheelchair curling. “As students come to curl at the Boucherville Curling Club, I’m being asked occasionally to explain them how we play from a wheelchair.”
And what is one of Johanne’s most memorable accomplishments outside of curling? “I was selected as one of three candidates, among 25 across Canada, to be a Torchbearer in Shanghai, May 2008, for the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay.”
